Renovating the House - The Upstairs
The upstairs of the house has had MANY guises, when we first bought the house we moved into the bedsit up there which consisted of a small sitting room, kitchen/diner, small bathroom and bedroom.
After we had renovated the downstairs (so like 2 years later), we then ripped out the HORRENDOUS kitchen upstairs, pulled up the HORRENDOUS flooring and knocked down most of the walls to create 3 rooms (there were 5 if you include a mental tiny hall).
The Bear just before a MAJOR head wound...
2 years later…
Anyway the room which was the Sitting room/ Kitchen/ Diner was now to become the office for my new homewares business – we threw a desk in and installed some shelves and it was pretty much good to go. The tiny bathroom became a stockroom or sorts for any plywood/insulation/ random pieces of housey-things that Jamie would NOT throw away and the spare room, remained a fairly manky spare room.
And then we basically left the upstairs for FOUR years. I know, I know – that’s too long and we don’t even have a good reason why. I mean YES we had ZERO cash, I had just started a new business, which totally engulfed my life, and we were also just really T I R E D. But we should have tackled upstairs before now but meh, we didn’t.
Then 4 years after that…
So now we’re doing it, we’re going to make the office our Master Bedroom, we’re going to convert the tiny bathroom into a tiny ensuite and turn the spare room into a nursery…which may give you a hint as to why finishing the house has become somewhat of a priority with a definite deadline. Anywho after MUCH looking and heartbreak, we finally found a good tradesman who is going to start on our ensuite at the end of February and Jamie has already started pulling apart the office space. Job one in the office is pulling up all the old wooden boards and insulating the shite out of the floor. The house is OLD and you can hear EVERYTHING from upstairs hence why the insulation is so important, we’re also going to carpet upstairs for extra juicy sound cushioning and because it’ll be YUM underfoot.

Next up we'll chat through the plans for the Master Bedroom...
