The Original Hotline Bling...
At April and the Bear, we strive to put a focus on Irish artists and have a particular fondness for those that use humour to express themselves and their talent.
Helen Devine is one such artist – her latest art print ‘the original hotline bling’ combines her love of the 80’s with a cheeky twist. Bold, nostalgic and oh-so-covetable.
We first meet Helen earlier this year at the Teeling Whiskey Craft Fair, she was filming a video for Teeling about the fair and afterwards sent a little video to each stall holder for their own use which is a pretty lovely thing to do. And not only this but the video was super-slick! So when Helen mentioned that she's also illustrates - I had to see more!
Helen collaborated with Jill & Gill to create these prints which were all screen-printed in their Dublin studio - see below for a peek at the screen-print process, the video (shot by Helen's company Kilig Productions natch) is FAB. This is a limited edition run of 50 so if you want one...get in quick!
Each limited edition screen-printed art piece comes signed by both Helen and Jill & Gill.
Helen Devine is a multidisciplinary artist working in illustration, videography, photography, sculpture and graphic design. Not satisfied with working in just one medium she utilises all of her skills in her work, giving her a diverse portfolio. She is an ideas person who enjoys working with other creatives, which brings us to her latest collaboration with artists Jill & Gill. Born in the 80s, she is yet to fully grow up, hence her nostalgic nod to the past with her 'Original Hotline Bling' print. When Helen is not creating art, she is happiest in nature with a few doggies by her side (no offence humans!).
Jill & Gill are a small Dublin based sketch, and screen printing project made up of Jill Deering (a sketch artist and musician) and Gillian Henderson (a print maker and picture framer) - these awesome femmes design and print in Dublin.
